This is something that technology can sometimes [not always!] offer. And I agree that working in groups can be very beneficial for several reasons. Learning theory tells us that we often construct new knowledge and help ourselves make sense of it when we are able to work with others. This collaboration can also make those uneasy with technology a little more comfortable. it also challenges the traditional school hierarchy about the written word being the most important. A few future elementary educators have expressed concern about elementary students being able to do this kind of project - they can!! I have seen it. It is often a matter of developing a trusting classroom environment. And many schools DO have laptops, digital cameras etc. - often even in schools that are seen as 'deficient!' It's almost assumed, these days, that "oh, EVERYONE has a computer!" (or an iPod, etc) and that is just not the case at all and as teachers we need to be careful not to make assignments that are designed to make the student fail (because of a lack of access). Excellent observation!Debi Brimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14966472533499099435noreply@blogger.com
